Smile like you mean it

I have something to admit: I really like studying at the library. I find it relaxing and strangely satisfying. It's so wonderfully quiet and peaceful. I also get a kind of high off the fact that everyone is there to study and learn. Wow, I sound rather odd now...

Is it any guess where I spent the day? This is my comfortable library outfit of today. Loose mens tshirt that looks like pajamas, jeans, flat boots and wool socks. Add leather jacket and i'm set to go absorb my text books.

I had to include the dorky image where i'm grinning my face off... seriousness be damned! I hope everyone's exams are going well and that no one is too overwhelmed by all the stress and drama. Enjoy the day!

Hanging in the Breeze

I was brousing around turnetout.tv and was instantly drawn to these two images. The denim shorts, cropped jacket combination is always a winner, but these two women take it that one step further.

Each have interpreted the combination in their own individual ways, letting their personality shine through and speak through their clothing.
The top image is perfection.

I also stumbled across this image:

Doesn't it make you wish you were a shirt?

Baby it's black outside

Black black black. Today I pulled out of my closet my comfort dress- it's like being inside a knitted caterpillar. Cosy, comfortable and perfectly frumpy.

It also has a sort of built-in scarf-ish thing, which comes in handy when i'm freezing in the library at University. I snuggle down into it and no one bothers me (if I can't see them then they can't see me...).

Today was the final day of this semester, and now i'm officially on exam leave. Eek!! The next month is going to be full of... excitement. Trying to be optimistic here. Reading everyone's amazing blogs definatly helps to de-stress in times of crisis. Thanks all for the escapism!

Boys boys boys

Perhaps it's just in the areas that I frequent, but I find that the vast majority of guys, particuarly around my age, do not dress well. At all. I'm not rubbishing them, but I do think that it's so great when guys demonstrate a bit of style. It makes me smile when I walk past a guy who is stylish and dressed to express his personality.

These images are a few I have taken notice of as great examples of stylish guys. I truly do not think that guys need to dress "fussy" to look good. In my opinion at least, one of the best looks on a guy is a simple plain t-shirt or shirt with trousers/jeans. The image of the guy jumping is a perfect example of this (and how cute is the kid in the last picture! So stylish!).

In saying this, I have noticed that the ways girls like guys to dress is very much influenced by the way they themselves dress and the guys they are attracted to. But despite beauty and fashion being in the eye of the beholder, style is appreciated by all.

If only the guys in my classes in surf shorts and printed hoodies would listen...

Tied and Knotted

A pretty casual, basic outfit today, as I just had a couple of classes. The sun semi-returned today, after a horrid downpour of rain as I was going to my first class at 8am (gasp!).

I bought this dress a couple of years ago in a 1000% off sale at Dotti, and it was pretty darn cheap. The tie is pretty neat as you can wind it around you in all sorts of different ways, which is great as you can make numerous different looks out of it. It's also embarassingly trasparent without a slip underneith... (rather sad discovering this the hard way).

Summer, summer, i'm in love

SUMMER!!! I am crazy happy right now! I'm very much a summer girl, and all this cold weather has been slowly killing me. But today the sun came out and everything was perfect.

My father gave me this plaid shirt last night, after I whinged about how much I wanted the perfect one... He had it in his closet from his days on his parents farm when he was younger. Dad's are pretty neat.

I spent the day lounging around in it and my bikini. Sewing and studying were achieved amidst repetedly running out to bask in the sunshine.

My apologies also for the chronic lack of updates this week. Exams are scarily close but I will make sure to make an effort to post more. Hope everyone is having a beautiful weekend x

Eye Spy

So I look like death... sorry about that. Anyway, these are my new sunglasses that I picked up in Wellington a week ago. I had all intentions of finding a classic, black-or-brown pair but somehow walked out with this purple pair. I couldn't help it! I must say that I am more than happy with them. I love the shape, the colour, the fact that they're electric blue inside, the arrows on the sides... everything!

They're by Karen Walker, who honestly is such a genius. I'm a fan.

Thank you for the lovely comments! I answered the comments from my last post, sorry about the delay! x

Will you marry me?

Once again I sucumbed to the Polyvore goodness... It's so satisfying, you spend hours on it yet come out feeling like you've really acomplished something (even though you really haven't... execpt if lusting after more unattainable things counts as acomplishment??).

The ring is by Karen Walker, whom I am utterly obsessed with. Her jewellery is to die for and her sunglasses make me go all excitable, they're just so perfect. Argh not to mention the clothes...

She came into work, and the whole time I served her I had the dorkiest grin on my face. I think I may have scared her.

Beauty

Anna Karina is a phenomenal beauty. It's not simply the way she looked, though. Her beauty is also evoked through the way she carries and styles herself. Complete inspiration, no other explanation necessary.
Her hair in the first image is so gorgeous. So tempting to try re-create...

You had me at Hello

Silly photo! I needed it to counteract the bad encounter I had this afternoon. Don't you find it so dissapointing when your realise that there are horribly mean people in the world? It's such a sad fact.

On a happier note, look at the pretty shoes!! I know every blogger under the sun has them, but they were truly love at first sight. I squeeled so much when they arrived...

The layers of what i'm wearing don't really show up much in the full photographs. The navy cardigan broke up the sea of black that i'm wearing (save for the skirt). I truly love this skirt. It is insanely pouffy, so that side on I look like I have a pillow tied around my thighs under it. It's completely fantastic.

WOWed

The World Of Wearable Arts (WOW) show was insane. I've tried to describe it to friends and it's so difficult... It's like a cross between a circus, a musical, an art exhibition, a stage show and a fashion show. It's more dance and art than fashion, but as you can see from these images, it has such amazing talent in it. It has become so international as well, with so many outfits coming from all around the world.

The Leather outfit, second from the bottom, was this years winner. The top two are previous years winners, and the pin cushion one I just love!

And what I wore on the second day while looking in stores and walking around Wellington:

Wearing: American Apparel Raglan, Belt: mother's vintage, jeans: CR. I wore my leather jacket over the top, and had two knit tops underneith as it was so cold.

Fitting Room Escapades

I'm back from the most awesome weekend in Wellington, and am exhausted but very happy! The World Of Wearable Arts show was amazing, it left me completely speachless. I'm trying to find some pictures of it to put up to share, because it was truly stunning.
My mother, sister and I spent most of the weekend looking around all the different shops. Here are a few pictures I took of clothes that I tried on. It's funny how things often look gorgeous on the hanger but completly different on.

This dress was so adorable! My mother said it looked like a french maids dress... But I loved it (until I put it on). It would have been perfect if half the skirt was chopped off and I had a big enough chest to fill it out. But no, the smallest size was still ill fitting. The back was so cute though!

This sleeveless blazer/dress also was wierd fitting on. It was pretty cute though and would have looked good without the top under and with ankle booties. Both were from Cue.

I tried this on just to figure out how your arms would go in it, but I actually liked it a lot on. It was really cosy and a gorgeous texture. Hah, I look like a stunned fish.

Pretty blouse! It was fabulously low cut in the front and made from sheer, soft silk. Both from Witchery.
Guess which I bought..? I'm organizing the rest of my pictures at the moment, so i'll put the outfit pictures and what not up shortly. Hmm, its a bit dissapointing to be home and back to reality again.

Mirror, Mirror

The obligatory mirror shot. I was literally running out the door to my class when I thought to take an outfit picture: this is the result. It has suddenly turned rather cold again which is very dissapointing (I'm wearing two pairs of wool socks under my boots).

I'm so sick of my winter clothes at the moment, they just seem so limiting right now. I'm absoloutly longing for the day when i can wear shorts and a tee and not turn purple.

I found the above outfit a little too masculine for me, so I added these bow hair clips after my first lecture.
